KATSEYE: The Next Global Sensation

Katseye is the newest exciting and innovative girl group to hit the media.

It was formed through the hit survival show, “Dream Academy,” and this dynamic group consists of 6 unique girls from diverse ethnic backgrounds, each bringing their distinctive voices, captivating choreography, and inspiring stories to fans worldwide. The K-pop training method has always been known for pumping out the most well-rounded and talented performers; however, oftentimes, their fanbase is limited to that of South Korea, as the majority of K-pop songs are both marketed and sung in Korean. Hybe, a popular Korean label, had the dream of taking their success to the next level by reaching a global audience, particularly in the US. Geffen Records saw potential in this business model, and the two labels formed Hybe x Geffen, the next joint label set to debut a group diverse and unique enough to reach audiences globally.

Katseye features: 

Kateye hit the ground running with their debut EP in August titled SIS: Soft is Strong, featuring five unique and universally appealing songs. SIS finished 2024 as the 58th most streamed female album of the year, beating out LE SERRAFIMS ‘Crazy.’ This is a massive milestone for the girls and certainly one the world wasn't expecting.

Katseye uses their songs to explore themes such as identity, resilience, and dreams, touching audiences with their individual stories.

I first discovered KATSEYE during the ladder part of the survival show. I recall watching a snippet of Mission 3, titled “Wannabe,” on TikTok and being in awe of the talents of the featured girls. Although none of the girls in that mission made the final six, their performance was captivating enough to draw me into the survival show. When the final six were announced, I instantly became obsessed with the harmony among the selected individuals and the beautiful cultural mix they created when united.

I knew this would be a group I’d follow. 

So when their debut promo began to roll out in the summer, I WAS LOCKED IN. 

Since then, I've seen every YouTube video on their channel and successfully locked in Debut as my #1 song of 2024. I love these girls, and so will the world.

For me, it's about the different aspects each member brings to the group and their apparent friendship. As a watcher, you feel included in the group dynamic. It's welcoming and memorable, with each girl committed to the end goal of securing global success.

They additionally incorporate elements of their heritage and cultures into their music. For example, they use multilingual lyrics in ‘Flame,’ a single to promote Netflix’s new series, Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld, which features Mandarin, Korean, Spanish, and English.

They also collaborated with Netflix on a documentary series highlighting the process of training and competing for a spot in the group that was released in August, titled ‘Popstar Academy’. While the documentary received mixed reviews, mostly regarding drama aspects incorporated into the show, it only further launched their success, and the girls performed at the MAMA awards in November, leaving fans gagged by the intensity of the performance.

Feminine, hot, powerful, and electric are the only appropriate terms to describe Katseye and their impact on Eyekons.

For Halloween, they appeared as the 6 six girls from Winx Club, just as fans had been pleading, with their TikTok reaching almost 4 million likes. The comments read,

Katseye is set up for success. They have the best label, team, and collaborators behind them, and who knows how far their impact will reach. The girls dream of going on world tours, connecting with fans, and making an impact as role models to young girls, and I can only hope these wishes are fulfilled. This group of 6 is the best of the best. Out of 120,000 submissions, Lara, Megan, Yoonchae, Manon, Sophia, and Daniela were the chosen ones.

KATSEYE is poised to redefine the global music scene. Their journey is just beginning, and as an EYEKON, I’m thrilled to witness their rise to greatness.
